The Nebraska Admirals Association dropped anchor at the United Veterans Club in Grand Island on April 5 for their annual conference.

Admirals from Willow Island, North Platte, Kearney, Elkhorn, Burwell, Pierce, and Wisconsin and Grand Island were on hand for the day.

Admirals in the mythical Nebraska Navy promote and enhance the “Good Life of the State of Nebraska,” through such actions as:

  • Promotion of education and educational activities throughout the state.
  • Promotion of tourism in the state.
  • Promotion of Nebraska products.
  • Seek and save Nebraska’s underground sea.
  • Building Nebraska pride and esprit de corps.

Fleet Admiral Annette Partridge called the meeting to order. Invocation before the meal was by Chief Yeoman Elaine Sluti. Sluti also gave a report on the minutes of the board meeting held earlier in the day.

Due to lack of interest in the scholarship program, the board members voted to discontinue scholarships. The Board voted to donate the funds to the activities at the four Veterans Homes instead. A donation of $500 will be given twice a year to each home, as funds allow. The funds come from donations and proceeds from merchandise sales and the annual auction.

Financial Officer Don Sluti gave the financial report. The organization will be changing banks to get a better interest rate.

The board is elected every two years in odd years. Nominations were taken and the current board was unanimously reelected. The open position of historian was filled unanimously with Pat Moeller of Pierce, Neb. A successful auction was led by Ed Meedel.

The anchor was hoisted and all were wished “fair winds and following seas” until the admirals drop anchor next April in Kearney.
