Marty B. Calhoun, age 65, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Great Plains Health.
Marty was born September 19, 1959, in North Platte to Bruce and Betty (McGovern) Calhoun.
After finishing his schooling, Marty found his passion working on ranches, eventually establishing his own, the Cherokee Cattle Ranch. During this time, he met the love of his life, Terri Dimmitt, and they were wed March 21, 2008. Marty spent most of his days working in the hayfield from dawn to dusk, waiting for his favorite time of the year, calving season. When it finally came, he would take the night shifts, while his wife took the day shifts. Nothing brought him more pleasure than seeing new life come into this world.
Though Marty was a bit of a homebody, kept busy with work and satisfied with the life he chose, he was always the life of the party when he did go out. He was always quick with a joke that could make anyone break out in laughter and was never at a loss for words in a conversation. He loved socializing and giving to his community. Marty took great pride in shoeing horses for the rodeo and actively rodeoed for over 40 years. He was also the loudest voice cheering for our local Bulldogs or the Huskers. He will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish Marty’s memory are his wife, Terri Calhoun; mother-in-law Ellen Dimmit; brothers-in-law Tom, Tim, and Tracy Dimmitt; sister-in-law Tara Woodcock; cat Little Miss Princess Minnie; his favorite cow Scratchy; and many more friends and family whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Betty, father-in-law Gary Dimmitt, and brother-in-law Jim Woodcock.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home at 1 p.m. A book signing will be held Monday, June 2, 2025, from 12 to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which has been entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for future designation.
