A crash on U.S. Highway 6 in Kearney County Thursday claimed the life of a Hastings man.
A semi, driven by Luke Brown, 41, of Cozad, was traveling west when it hit the rear of a westbound farm tractor driven by Michael Duca, 49, of Hastings.
The wreck occurred about a mile east of Heartwell. It was reported at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said.
The crash caused the tractor, which was pulling a shredder, to enter the ditch and roll. Duca was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where he was pronounced dead.
Brown was not injured in the crash, Thomas said.
Duca’s wife issued a plea for caution.
“Please be aware of farm equipment as harvest approaches,” she said in a message to NTV in Kearney. “My husband was killed today.”
