Steven M. Fitch, 25, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was indicted on federal charges Wednesday for unlawful possession of a destructive device during an Omaha protest/riot on May 31.
If convicted, Fitch faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
On May 31, Fitch, is alleged to have possessed a Molotov Cocktail, not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. He was arrested at that time.
Fitch appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael D. Nelson on Aug. 26 where he pleaded not guilty. Nelson ordered Fitch to be detained until trial.
This case is under investigation by the Omaha police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
