Sam Malsbury and Carter Johnson of the North Platte First National Bank Seniors played in the Cornhusker League All-Star Game on July 9 in Hastings.
Malsbury and Johnson helped the American team defeat the National team 13-5.
Malsbury had a particularly good game. He was the winning pitcher, went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a run in the third inning.
The American team scored in the first inning and six in the third to take control. Malsbury and Johnson joined with players from Kearney, Grand Island, Lincoln Pius X and Gretna, while the National team was made up of players from the six Lincoln Public Schools teams and Fremont.
Johnson and Malsbury have been standouts for North Platte (10-21) this year.
They are the top two pitchers in the rotation and they’re two of the top hitters. Malsbury has been hitting in the leadoff spot and Johnson usually bats third in the batting order.
“Carter and Sam are great competitors and players,” North Platte Seniors coach Ty Brockmoller said. “They were very deserving of being named all-stars. They’ve put in a lot of work to get better and it shows.”
