Leland and Cathy Poppe, long-time volunteers with Nebraskaland Days, were presented with the Dale Studley Memorial Award Friday night during the Buffalo Bill Rodeo.

Each year, the Dale Studley Memorial Award goes to someone who has gone above and beyond for the state’s celebration. The recipient is selected by the board of directors, and it is the highest honor that the organization can bestow, Fudge said.

Leland served on the Nebraskaland Days board of directors from 2004-08. While on the board, he oversaw the Governor’s Art Show among other things.

His passion has been and continues to be the Nebraskaland Days Road Run. He and Cathy coordinated it for 15 years past the end of his term on the board.

Both the Poppe’s continue to volunteer in Nebraska Days’ hospitality areas, Nebraskaland Days Executive Director David Fudge said.

Their contributions to the community go beyond the celebration. They are involved in many other community organizations, including the Chamber Hostesses and the Great Plains Health Foundation Board.

“The Poppes are people who help make North Platte a better place to live,” Fudge said. “We’re really fortunate to have them as members of our community.”
