The North Platte Community College women’s basketball team lost to Laramie County Community College and Eastern Wyoming College at home on Friday and Saturday in their first two games of the season.

The Lady Knights lost, 89-52, against Eastern Wyoming on Saturday.

Eastern Wyoming opened the game on a 7–2 run before a jumper from Ligia Thortvedt briefly gave North Platte the lead. However, the Lancers responded with a 13–0 surge to build a double-digit advantage and closed the first quarter with a 22–10 lead.

North Platte found its rhythm in the second quarter. A basket from Kyenna Jackson sparked an 8–2 run, helping the Knights chip away at the deficit. Behind a strong defensive effort, North Platte outscored the Lancers by nine in the period to cut the margin to just three heading into halftime.

The Lancers came out firing after the break, opening the third quarter on a 15–0 run. The Knights battled back to within eleven, but Eastern Wyoming maintained control, leading 62–45 after three quarters.

North Platte struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the fourth, going scoreless until Gonzales drove to the basket for a layup with 3:48 remaining. The late push wasn’t enough, as Eastern Wyoming outscored the Knights in the final frame to secure the win.

Lady Knights open season with loss to Laramie County

In their season-opener against Laramie County on Friday, NPCC fell behind in the first half and they couldn’t get back in it after that as they lost 78-63.

North Platte started strong, jumping out to a 6-2 lead after a free throw from Jackson. However, the Knights went cold offensively, allowing Laramie to take control and end the first quarter ahead 14-8.

The Knights found some rhythm in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to three at 22-19. Laramie responded with a run to extend its lead, heading into halftime up 39-25. The Golden Eagles capitalized on their opportunities, converting 10 of 19 free throws in the first half.

The third quarter was evenly matched, with both teams scoring 18 points to maintain the 14-point gap. Laramie opened the fourth with back-to-back baskets before the Knights made a late push. Two free throws from Reece Yahn sparked a 9-2 run, but the Golden Eagles managed to hold off the rally, outscoring the Knights by one in the final frame to earn the win.

Next, the Lady Knights will play Casper College in the McCook Community College on Friday, Nov. 7.
