The North Platte High School girls soccer team defeated Bennington 3-0 on Friday in the first round of the Class B state tournament in Omaha.
The Lady Bulldogs (18-2) advance to play Omaha Skutt (15-3) in the semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
North Platte scored their first goal about 15 minutes into the game and held on to the 1-0 lead for the rest of the half.
With six minutes gone in the second half, the Bulldogs added to the lead with another goal. Then, less than three minutes later, it became 3-0 and the score remained the same for the rest of the way, as NPHS advanced past the Badgers (15-4).
It is the second win at state in the history of the North Platte girls soccer program. Their other victory was in 2005 when the girls beat Omaha Central 6-0 in the first round. In the semifinals, they lost 1-0 to the eventual state champion, Lincoln East.
In Skutt, who beat Omaha Duchesne in the first round, the Bulldogs will see a team that has played in the Class B final each of the last three years. The Skyhawks won it all in 2016 and 2017, but lost to Elkhorn last year.
Skutt’s three losses this season are to Class A No. 1 seed Millard West, Class B No. 1 seed Elkhorn South and Class B No. 4 seed Omaha Mercy.
