About 160 Kids Klub members recently spent an afternoon of fun at Dusty Trails on the north edge of North Platte.

Highlights of the May 31 trip included wagon rides through Buffalo Bill’s Scout’s rest ranch, horseback riding, interacting with animals and playing on the fun jump toys.

In addition, every child had an opportunity to interact with cows and horses and make s’mores.

Kids Klub Director Carrie Lienemann said it was the fourth year the group made a field trip to Dusty Trails.

“It kicks off the summer activities we do, and we schedule it before we get busy during Nebraskaland Days,” she said.

The club provides activities, entertainment and educational opportunities throughout the summer.

They go to the Cody Park swimming pool, Wild Bill’s for games and bowling and the Children’s Museum. They take fishing trips on a regular basis too. Lienemann said the trip to Dusty Trails is the one the kids really get excited about.

Lienemann said it is an adventure. They get to be outside have fun and learn about animals.

“Coming here is all they talk about,” she said. “They love coming out here. It is one of their favorite days. The word of the day has been ‘Miss Carrie, we don’t know how you invent these field trips, but we love it out here.’”
