Republican nominees for statewide offices will speak in North Platte on Sunday, Oct. 2 during a multi-county event scheduled from 4-7 p.m. at the Best Western Plus (3201 S. Jeffers).

The public is invited to attend and meet candidates in state and district races.

They will hear from Rep. Adrian Smith, Jim Pillen nominee for Governor, Bob Evnen nominee for Secretary of State, Mike Hilgers nominee for Attorney General, and John Murante, nominee for State Treasurer.

Speeches are expected to start around 5 p.m. and last a total of 30 minutes or so, Lincoln County GOP Chairwoman Carol Friesen said.

“We hope to see a lot of connections,” Friesen said,” not people being talked at, but talked with.”

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit directly with district candidates. Legislative candidates include Sen. Dave Murman (LD 38), Sen. Mike Jacobson and Chris Bruns (LD 42), and Teresa Ibach (LD 44 – southwest Nebraska).

Kevin Stocker, the Republican nominee for Public Service Commission will attend.

Kathy Wilmot, candidate for University Regent, and Elizabeth Tegtmeier, candidate for Nebraska State Board of Education, will be in attendance. Also, NPPD District Director Bill Hoyt and candidate David Gale will also be on hand.

This event is hosted by the Republican party from these counties: Arthur, Chase, Cherry, Custer, Dawson, Dundy, Furnas, Grant, Hayes, Hitchcock, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow, and Thomas.

Organizers say the intent is to directly connect candidates with voters before the early voting begins on Oct. 4. The sponsoring counties will be able to showcase their county and help inform the public of the important role the county GOP parties play.

To add to the fun, each candidate has been asked to bring a door prize to be given away during the event. Everyone who comes will be eligible for a door prize.

Light snacks will be served.
