In response to Mitchel Rickett’s letter, April 11:
I am so glad you responded to my letter! I wondered if anyone out there cared.
I was an Independent voter for many years, then I became an electrician, a card carrying member of IBEW. I voted as a Democrat until the Jimmy Carter regime. I still supported my union, stood three times on the picket line and gave them full support.
Then the Democratic Party lost their way. I am now a solid Republican! I stopped watching the news on the networks. I liked Nebraska Public Radio, the PBS evening news. Then PBS began to tell twisted truth, just as the networks had done.
You stated the 1st amendment correctly, but now the schools and even the North Platte Senior Center will not allow me to show a video of historical people. They seem to all be afraid that there may be references to Bible characters. Even the old patriotic songs refer to the Creator God.
The reasons they give are if someone complains, they will have their government funding cut. These institutions should allow people of all beliefs to be free to express their views to school students, to students 5th grade and older. Older students should be able to consider all views.
Thanks, Orley Dean Dye, Wallace
