The North Platte Area Sports Commission will bring a Major League Baseball Jr. Home Run Derby to North Platte on Saturday, April 27 at the American Legion/North Platte First Nationals Baseball Field.

Boys and girls will compete in two age divisions: 12U and 14U, and have the chance to advance through three levels of competition. This is a free event for both participants and spectators.

Youngsters can showcase their hitting abilities with the opportunity to advance.

Each competitor will receive 10 pitches, from a coach or parent, with up to 3 minutes to hit as many home runs as possible. The one with the most home runs will move on and compete again.

North Platte champions from both age divisions will advance to the regional level. Regional champions will advance to the national finals during major league baseball’s all-star week in Cleveland, Ohio.

Boys and girls both hit baseballs. For 12U, the home run distance is 170 feet, and 14U is 200 feet.

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.

To pre-register or for more information, go to PlayNorthPlatte.com, or contact the local coordinator, Samantha Geisler at 308-221-6865. This is a free event for both participants and spectators.
