A Hershey resident, James W. Ward, 75, was killed Monday afternoon in a collision with a semi-truck in Sutherland.

Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the wreck at 2:05 p.m. at U.S. Highway 30 and NE Highway 25 on the west edge of Sutherland.

When deputies arrived, they found that an eastbound GMC Sonoma had crossed the center line in the intersection and collided with a westbound semi-tractor-trailer.

Ward, the Sonoma driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, Taylor Manley of Beaver City suffered only minor injuries — scrapes and scratches, the sheriff’s office said.

Also, the semi-truck overturned on top of the back of another vehicle that was parked next to the initial collision, the sheriff said, but did not provide details.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office extended condolences to the Ward family in their time of loss, and also thanked the Nebraska State Patrol for their help with inspections and reconstruction of the accident.
