Two inches or more of hard rain whipped through North Platte Thursday afternoon, flooding streets all around town.
The heaviest rain fell between 3-5 p.m. The National Weather Service in North Platte recorded a total of 2.09 inches.
An hour or two after the rain stopped, most of water was off the streets, as overloaded storm sewers caught up and removed the residue of the deluge.
There are 20-40% chances of more rain during the night and on through Sunday night, with a 50% chance on Saturday night. Some storms could produce heavy rain, the weather service said.
After the rainfall Thursday afternoon, the year’s precipitation total is 22.65 inches.
The normal amount on Aug. 8 is 14.7 inches, the weather service said.
