Nikki Guerra, 46, of North Platte, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Lincoln for meth possession with intent to distribute.
U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said Guerra will serve 2.5 years plus a month in prison. There is no parole. After Guerra’s release from prison, she will begin a five-year term of supervision.
Lehr said Guerra was arrested on Oct. 15, when North Platte police stopped a vehicle that she owned as it entered North Platte for a traffic violation. From prior information, officers suspected her vehicle had been involved in the distribution of narcotics and suspected that narcotics were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Lehr said a police dog was deployed and indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Police found a pound of meth in a man’s XL jacket pocket on the floor of the passenger’s side seat where Guerra had been sitting.
The recovered meth was sent to the state crime lab where it was tested and found have a purity of 95.7%, equivalent to 400 grams of actual meth.
In the sentencing, Judge Gerrard gave Guerra credit for work she has done to address her substance abuse issues since she was arrested.
The North Platte police investigated the case, Lehr said.
