Grace Gertrude Lewis, 97, of North Platte passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 at Accura Healthcare.

Grace was born Nov. 21, 1928 in North Platte to Floyd Ernst and Grace Ethel (Bartrap) Wolcott. Grace grew up in North Platte, graduating from the eighth grade before stepping back to take care of her younger siblings. In 1945, found and married the love of her life, Oliver Wayne Lewis. To this union was born their beloved children Oliver, Karen, Albert, George, Shirley, and Alea. Grace committed herself to raising her children and keeping a tidy home. Though she was always a sweetheart, she ran her home with a “Her way or the Highway” mentality. And if her way was not adhered to, her kids would always hear the threat of “Just wait until your dad gets home!”

Grace was always quite the individual, always showing love and stubbornness in equal measure. She loved collecting angels and sharing them with her loved ones, while also refusing to drive even once. Above all things, Grace was content with her life, happy to be the best mother and grandmother she could be. She loved baking for her family, leaving behind memories of homemade bread, noodles, and cinnamon knots. She never missed a chance to let her family know she loved them.

Those Left to cherish Grace’s memory are her children Karen Hayes, Albert (Susan) Lewis, George Lewis, Shirley (Scoot) Denning, and Alea Colburn; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and special cousin Roberta Barkeloo.

She is preceded in death by her husband Oliver Wayne Lewis; infant son Oliver Lewis Jr.; parents Floyd & Grace Wolcott; siblings Albert Wolcott, Flora Rose Wolcott, George Wolcott, Leona Jackson, and Lyle Wolcott; son-in-law Chuck Hayes; and grandson George Hayes.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Lt. Tim Gantner officiating. Burial will follow at North Platte Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
