Gene Raymond Waugh, 84, of North Platte passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Linden Court.

He was born Oct. 28, 1938 at Platte Valley farm in North Platte, the son of Bill and Grace Waugh.

Gene attended Platte Valley grade school and North Platte Senior High School. He worked on several ranches around North Platte.

He was employed with the North Platte Sanitation department for 19 years. He then continued working for the North Platte board of education as a janitor until his retirement.

Gene was a longtime member of the Parkview Nazarene Church of North Platte. His hobbies included horses and making a variety of leather crafts throughout the years. He always had to have a pick-up for transportation in addition to the family vehicle.

On Nov. 28, 1967 he was united in his 2nd marriage to Barbara Wolfe. Bringing to this union were 7 children from previous relationships and one together.

Gene was a kind and devoted husband, father, and granddad.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Barbara; son, Russell of Grand Island; daughters, Janell of Lincoln, Jodi (Marc) of FL, Susan, Debbie, Rhonda, and Elizabeth; son in law, Frank of Gibbon; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and growing; sister-in-law, Teddy Waugh and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Grace Waugh; daughter, Kimberly; brothers, Bill, Charles, and Roy; nephew, Stephen; sisters in law, Donna and Jean.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27 at Parkview Nazarene Church with Pastor James Trippett officiating. Burial will be private at a later date in North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, May 26 from 1-7 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
