Gary W. Olsson, 81, passed away peacefully on Aug. 2, 2026 in North Platte.

Gary was born on May 9, 1945, in Curtis, Nebraska, to Carl and Katie (Jensen) Olsson.

Throughout his life, he faced challenges with resilience and determination, always finding strength in the love of his family. Gary dedicated much of his career to the automotive industry. He owned Gothenburg Auto Parts for many years and worked as an auto mechanic for most of his life. He took great pride in helping others and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand. Outside of work, Gary found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved exploring garage sales, tending his garden, searching for antiques, and delighting family and friends by blowing giant bubbles made from his own secret concoction.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Katie Olsson; his beloved wife of 49 years, Cheri; his sons, Mike and Joel; his daughter, Melody; his grandson, Christopher; his brother, Delbert, and sister-in-law, Dorothy; his sisters, Eleanor and Evelyn, along with their husbands, Elden and Kelly.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Rebekah; his grandchildren, Saharah, Joseph, Theresa, Sheena, and Anna Rose; and his great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Raelynn, Xavier, Javauni, River, Phoenix, and Tristan. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Gary will be remembered for his perseverance, his love for his family, his generous heart, and the many memories he created with those who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved
