North Platte High scored a touchdown at the start of both halves on Friday on their way to a 20-7 victory at Columbus.

After losing their first three games by a total of 10 points, the Bulldogs recorded their first, long-awaited win of the season.

Columbus (2-3) received the ball to start the game and on the second play of the game, they fumbled and North Platte recovered. NPHS took advantage with a touchdown run by quarterback Caden Joneson to take a 7-0 lead.

Later in the first quarter, the Bulldogs got a field goal from Luke Borges to make it 10-0.

It remained 10-0 at halftime and North Platte received the kick for the second half. Joneson ran for another touchdown to give the Dawgs a commanding 17-0 lead.

Columbus got on the board with a touchdown in the third quarter. But the Bulldog defense held the Discoverers scoreless the rest of the way. Borges hit another field goal in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the win.

North Platte returns home on Sept. 22 where they will host arch-rival Kearney (4-0) at Bauer Field.
