A month after winning the state wrestling championship in the high school season, North Platte’s Darian Diaz won an AAU state championship on Sunday in Kearney.

At the AAU state championships, Diaz won five matches to take the state title. It is the second straight year Diaz has won the AAU state championship.

Diaz. who also qualified for Team Nebraska, will wrestle at the AAU Duals in Des Moines, Iowa, as well as the Disney Duals in Orlando, Fla.

Diaz plans to wrestle in six more states this spring and summer as he prepares to defend his Class B championship, which he won on Feb. 16 by defeating Caleb Lazure of Omaha Skutt by a 10-3 decision.

Diaz only lost one match in his sophomore season for North Platte High.
