About 20 people demonstrated Saturday at the Lincoln Courthouse, joining protests in other parts of the country against ICE, following the fatal shooting of an anti-ICE disrupter in Minneapolis, Minn.

The North Platte demonstration lasted about an hour, organized by an action committee of the Lincoln County Democrats. Jan Knight, one of the demonstrators, said as many as 30 attended.

Knight said the White House says ICE is there to protect people from crime, but instead they are instigating violence.

“They are going into communities, high schools, businesses, places where people work and dragging them out if they have dark skin,” Knight said, adding that she believes the officers are indiscriminate as to who they round up.”

Knight maintains that ICE consists of criminals with records, individuals who were pardoned by Trump from the Jan. 6 demonstration in 2021, and wear masks to hide their identity, and have relatively little training.

Knight urges people “to call your representatives.”
