On Friday night, July 24, two men allegedly assaulted a Dawson County sheriff’s deputy have the deputy pulled their car over in Lexington for a traffic violation.
County Sheriff Mark Montgomery said when the deputy approached the car, the backseat passengers got out. One of them, Jose Andres Jacinto, 46, refused to comply with the deputy’s command to return to the vehicle and started an altercation. At about the same time, the other passenger, Andres Andres-Diego, 21, joined the fight.
The driver of the car pulled away from the scene.
Montgomery said the younger man, Andres-Diego, stopped fighting at some point and went into a house near where the vehicle stopped.
Police, state troopers and other deputies arrived to help. They took both rear passengers into custody. Also, the driver of the car, Melvin Herera-Gomez, was found and arrested in the Lexington area.
The deputy was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
Andres-Jacinto and Andres-Diego are charged with second-degree assault of an officer, obstructing and resisting arrest. Herrera-Gomez is charged with operating a vehicle to avoid arrest and no operator’s license, Montgomery said.
