On April 25, 2025, Darrell “Gene” Perkins, Jr., passed away at UNMC in Omaha.
He was born on January 18, 1955, to Darrell Gene Perkins, Sr., and Willadean (Hewit) Barnoski, in North Platte.
Gene was raised on the family farm near Hershey, NE, and graduated from North Platte High School. Upon completion of high school, he owned and operated his own painting business, a career he thoroughly enjoyed and excelled at. Though Gene was a homebody, he loved long chats with the many friends he had in his life, as well as, his grandkids, when they stopped by to check on him. Like everyone, Gene had his own personal battles, but he was undoubtedly loved as a father, brother, son, uncle, and friend, to many.
Survivors include his daughter, Trina Ryan; grandchildren, LaTosha Ryan, Emily (Mike) Torres, and Erica (Terran) Weeth; great grandchildren, Marlan, Riley, and Logan Fox, Kendahl Snider, Silas Torres, Izaiah Chavez, Aydan Lunkwitz, Achilles, Esme, and Anya Davy; siblings, Carolyn (Dick) Barker, Linda (Randy) Laubner, Debra Fitzsimons, Tom Perkins, and David Perkins; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
