The last day that city crews will pick up curbside recycling will be Sept. 30.

All residents with a yellow lid recycle cart, please have your recycle carts at the street or alley by 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28 so the city can collect the contents, the public service department said Wednesday.

If you wish to have your cart picked up before Sept. 30, please call 535-6702. If you wish to trade your recycle cart for an extra household or yard waste cart, please call the same number, 535-6702.

Recyclables will continue to be collected at these drop-off sites:

  • Gary’s Super Foods, 1620 E. 4th
  • RSVP Offices, 901 E. 10th
  • First Christian Church, 220 N. Vine
  • Mid-Plains Community College, McDonald-Belton Campus
  • Adams Middle School
  • Westfield Shopping Center

Items accepted at drop-off sites are:

• Cardboard broke into 20” x 20” pieces.

• Aluminum and steel cans, clean and dry.

• Newsprint — must be placed in a plastic bag and tied.

• #1 & #2 plastics (with no lids).

The yellow lid carts program is ending because of lack of demand for mixed recyclables and the program costs the city about $140,000 a year, Public Service Director Layne Groseth has said.
