The North Platte St. Pat’s boys’ cross country team finished second at the UNK Invitational on Monday.
The UNK is the biggest regular season cross country meet in the state with nearly every program participating in one of the four races that are divided by class size. The Irish finished second to Perkins County in the Class D race.
St. Pat’s was led by Dimitri Pettit, who finished sixth with a time of 17:30.7. Perkins County’s Mason McGreer and Elijah Goodell finished first and second, respectively. McGreer’s winning time was 16:20.4.
Behind Pettit for the Irish was Coltan Ham in 11th and Porter Connick in 22nd.
Max Hanson of Wallace finished 19th.
Wallace’s Robertson second
Ashley Robertson of Wallace finished second in the Class D girls’ race at the UNK.
Robertson finished just a hair behind Sage Holtmeier of Tri County. Both Robertson and Holtmeier had the same time, 20:29.8.
Robertson’s runner-up finish helped the Lady Wildcats finish fifth. Hemingford, who had three top 20 finishes, was first.
Ryleigh Hanson was the second Wallace runner to cross the finish line, coming in at 30th. She was followed by Elliana Robertson in 46th.
Illa Gosnell of Maxwell was 26th.
North Platte High boys fifth, girls ninth in Class A
The North Platte High finished fifth in the Class A race.
The Bulldogs were led by Jack Knapp, who finished seventh at 16:56.4. All six runners who finished ahead of the sophomore Knapp were seniors. Defending state champion Juan Gonzalez of Fremont won at 15:31.4. Fremont finished first with four other runners in the top 20.
Aiden Hawks became the second North Platte runner to finish in the top 20 when he came in 19th. Luke Tegtmeier finished 36th and Bryan Titus was three places behind him in 39th.
The North Platte girls also finished in the top 10 as they finished ninth.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kori McClain, who finished eighth at 20:05.3. Abigail Burger of Kearney won at 18:53.1. Kearney also finished first as a team.
In addition to McClain’s eighth place finish, NPHS got a 23rd place finish from Jada Hothan. Mary Nielsen finished 41st.
