The North Platte St. Pat’s girls’ cross country team won the district championship Thursday.

The Lady Irish had the top two finishers in the D-5 meet at Cambridge in Kate Stienike and Genna Blakely. Stienike won the title with her time of 20:54.6. Blakely came in 48 seconds later to claim second place.

Hayley Miles got sixth place, then Madi Gifford got 12th and Helana Pettit came in shortly thereafter in 14th.

St. Pat’s won the district over 11 teams. Axtell was second and Hi-Line was third.

Ava McGown of Brady qualified for the state meet with her fourth place finish.

Miles wins district title

St. Pat’s freshman Jarrett Miles won the district championship in the boys’ race, Thursday.

Miles clocked in at 17:31, beating Jacob O’Dea of Southwest by 15 seconds.

Miles’ teammate, Dax Connick, was the other Irish runner to medal and he got eighth.

St. Pat’s was edged out for the district championship by Axtell. Sandhills Valley was third.

Sandhills Valley was led by Colin Rooney, who got fourth place. Jared Trimble also medaled, coming in at 15th place.

The state meet will be held on Oct. 23 in Kearney.
