State troopers, with assistance from the Lincoln County sheriff’s office and North Platte police, arrested a man Tuesday afternoon after a high-speed pursuit on I-80 that reached speeds of 140 mph.

The Nebraska State Patrol was notified of the westbound I-80 reckless driver around 4 p.m., NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.

A trooper saw a silver 2006 Corvette matching the description traveling 117 mph about nine miles east of North Platte. The trooper tried to pull the car over, but the driver kept going with the trooper in pursuit.

Thomas said the Corvette reached speeds of 140 mph and passed vehicles on the shoulder. Due to traffic, the trooper lost sight of the vehicle and called for assistance from nearby troopers, who successfully deployed stop sticks a mile or two east of North Platte to slow the vehicle. The Corvette got off I-80 at the main North Platte exit, 177, where the driver was blocked from heading into the city.

Troopers, with assistance from sheriff’s deputies and police, apprehended Mason Honeyman, 29. During the interaction, troopers detected the odor of alcohol.

Honeyman was charged with second offense driving under the influence of liquor, 0.15 or more, as well as willful reckless driving, operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, a second offense of driving while his license is revoked, plus other traffic violations.

Honeyman is in the Lincoln County jail, held without bond pending a court appearance.
