A Mid-Plains Community College instructor is being honored for her commitment and contributions to higher education.

Alexa McCall has been selected to receive the 2025 Excellence in Teaching award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development.

McCall began teaching math at Brady Public Schools in 2013. She taught at Maxwell Public Schools from 2016-19 before becoming a full-time math instructor at the college in August 2019. She is also the head volleyball coach.

“The college is proud to be able to recognize Alexa,” said Dr. Jody Tomanek, vice president of academic affairs and NPCC. “This recognition goes to those faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning both in the classroom and outside the classroom. Alexa exemplifies what it means to receive this award.”

Originally from Sutherland, McCall studied at North Platte Community College and played for the volleyball team from 2008-09.

She transferred to Concordia University in Seward where she continued her volleyball career and graduated in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in mathematics.

She was the assistant coach for the NPCC volleyball team in 2013-14 prior to taking on her current roles as head coach and math instructor at the college.

McCall was recently honored at a dinner and celebration during the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas.
