On May 21-22, the best of Nebraska High School Class D boys’ golfers will meet in North Platte for the Nebraska State Championship tournament.

The tournament is expected to draw 90-110 golfers to the Lake Maloney golf course, the Lincoln County Visitor’s Bureau said Thursday.

Class D has the largest number of schools in Nebraska, 73, including nearby schools as Maywood/Hayes Center, Mullen, Paxton, North Platte St. Patrick’s, Wallace and others.

“We can expect many family, friends and fans to come to North Platte to support these boys as they compete in the state championships,” said Samantha Geisler, the sports and events marketing specialist for the North Platte/Lincoln County Visitors Bureau.

The visitors bureau, in cooperation with the Lake Maloney Golf Course, submitted a bid to host the NSAA tournament after the 2017 tournament, and was named as the host location for the years 2018-20 for the Class D boys state golf championships.

This fall, North Platte will also host the Class C girls state golf championship. The exact course is yet to be determined by NSAA. That tournament is predicted to generate approximately $30,000 in visitor spending to the North Platte area, the visitor’s bureau said.
