North Platte St. Pat’s dominated the second and third quarters on Friday on their way to a 58-27 win at Paxton on Friday.
Dane Storer scored the first three points of the game for Paxton (14-8) on a basket and a free throw. Caden Holm then banked in a three-pointer to make it a 6-0 start for the Tigers.
St. Pat’s (18-5) established themselves after that and they took a 9-8 lead when Corby Condon made a layup.
Both teams battled for the rest of the quarter and at the buzzer, Keegan Schow made a three from the right corner to give Paxton a 14-13 lead.
The Irish regained the lead when Alex Davies opened the second quarter with a basket. Jack Heiss got one to go down before Davies scored again to make it 19-14.
The lead grew to double figures at 27-17 when Caleb Munson laid one in. Joe Heirigs then hit a three before Logan O’Malley got a layup after stealing the ball from Josh Eakins in the backcourt.
Jared Fox scored the last bucket of the first half for Paxton to make it 32-19 at halftime. But St. Pat’s really pulled away in the third quarter by holding the Tigers scoreless in the period. It was 50-19 going into the fourth, when the Irish were able to rest their starters.
Next, the Irish begin sub-districts where they are the No. 1 seed and host team. On Tuesday, they will play the winner of Sandhills Valley (16-6) and Sandhills-Thedford (10-8).
