North Platte High couldn’t keep up with the pace Kearney Catholic scored at on Saturday and they lost, 69-43, at the Dawg House.
Kade Mohr scored the first basket of the game for NPHS (2-8). Blake Thiele then responded with a basket to put Kearney Catholic (10-2). The Stars took the lead on a free throw by Kegan Bosshamer. Then Brett Mahony scored the next five points on a putback and a three-pointer to make it 8-2.
Mohr scored again and River Johnston made a three to bring the Bulldogs to within one. But Kearney Catholic dominated the rest of the first quarter to lead 23-10 going into the second.
Bosshamer scored the first five points of the second quarter to make it 28-10. Luke Zimbelman and Johnston then hit two straight threes. Then Johnston got a layup to cut the lead to 10 with three minutes left in the first half.
But Kearney Catholic built their lead back up to 38-21 at halftime. North Platte couldn’t cut into the lead in the third quarter and the deficit was too big in the fourth to make any difference.
Next, the Bulldogs will play at Lexington (2-6) on Jan. 15.
