A loaded Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train derailed before dawn on Friday morning, Feb. 9 near Cairo along Neb. Highway 2.

Three locomotives and more than a dozen cars left the tracks, Nebraska TV reported. Several cars spilled their contents, and two locomotives were nose-to-nose, off the tracks. The derailment reportedly occurred around 4:45 a.m. near 130th Road in Hall County.

Cairo is about 10 miles west of Grand Island.
