North Platte St. Pat’s defeated Overton, 68-33, with big runs to start each half on Friday at the McGahan Activities Center.
Will Kulhanek scored the first points of the game for Overton (6-6). St. Pat’s (12-2) took the lead with Brecken Erickson scoring their first seven points.
Will Moats scored for the Irish when he got a layup after Seth Engler stole an inbound pass. Erickson scored the next six points. Then with time running out in the first quarter, Andrew Brosius made a three-pointer from the right corner to make it 19-2.
Overton didn’t go away after falling behind by nearly 20 in the first period. The Eagles made some shots and they were down just 28-16 at halftime.
After the break, Noah Leer got a putback to bring Overton to within 10. But the Irish showed their might by scoring 17 unanswered points to put the Eagles away.
It was 47-25 at the end of the third quarter and the lead kept growing in the fourth until St. Pat’s emptied their bench.
Next, the Irish will compete in the semifinals of the SPVA tournament on Jan. 19. As the No. 1 seed, they will play the winner of No. 4-seed Chase County (4-7) and fifth seed Hershey (7-6).
