The North Platte St. Pat’s Lady Irish dominated an overmatched Perkins County team on Friday, 63-10, at the McGahan Activities Center.

“I thought we did a great job of not playing sloppy and taking care of the ball,” St. Pat’s coach Nathan Stienike said. “We played really good basketball, especially in the first half, where we were unselfish and had great ball movement.”

The game started with Hayley Homan, who signed to play basketball for Hastings College that morning, getting a pair of layups to open the scoring for St. Pat’s (11-0). Kaleigh Kummer then got one on a fast break. Then Abbi Allberry buried a three-pointer from the left corner after receiving the inbound pass from Calli Groseth.

That was just the start as the Irish shut out the Lady Plainsmen (1-8) in the first quarter. Kummer and Groseth scored baskets to open the quarter to make it 30 unanswered points before Perkins County finally scored when Rylee Huff banked in a jump shot from 15 feet.

The Lady Plainsmen, who have only one senior and no juniors, scored two more points the rest of the half and St. Pat’s led 39-4 at halftime.

“We didn’t press at the start of the game and we worked on our half-court defense,” Stienike said. “We got some steals and layups off that led to easy buckets and that’s always good when you can get that.”

In the second half, the Lady Irish sat their starters and gave the reserves some playing time as they cruised to the easy win.

Next, St. Pat’s will look to remain undefeated when they play at Cozad (3-8) on Saturday.
