The North Platte High Lady Bulldogs couldn’t get much offense near the basket on Saturday in their 55-40 loss to Sidney at the Dawg House.

“For us to score inside, we have to execute well,” NPHS coach Tyson Hammond said. “We executed well at times but we didn’t finish a lot of them inside. We are pretty guard-oriented right now. We try to attack the rim and dump it off to our bigs and create shots from the outside. That’s how we have to play. I thought we did a lot of things well but we weren’t able to get the basket we needed.”

Sidney (12-1) led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter started with Ellie Blakely getting a bucket for North Platte (2-12) and then Macie Freeze banked in a three-pointer from the right side to tie the game.

But Sidney regained the lead on a basket by Payton Schrotberger. Ryan Dillehay followed with a basket and Carli Black made a three-pointer to give the Red Raiders a 23-16 lead.

The Bulldogs made it closer at halftime, 25-19. But Sidney stretched the lead to double figures at 32-21 after baskets by Katie Raffelson and Schrotberger. North Platte rallied to pull within 34-28. But Rheagan Stanley hit a three and Reese Riddle scored inside for Sidney to make it 11 again.

Katie Ramsey made a pair of free throws to put the Raiders up 41-28 going into the fourth quarter. Riddle scored again to open the fourth, making it a 15-point game, which was the deficit at the end of the game.

After the loss to Sidney, NPHS will host Grand Island Northwest (4-9) on Jan. 17.
