Barbara Mae Pelton-Nixon, 91, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones.
Barbara was born on a ranch west of Arthur and spent most of her adult life in Crawford before spending her final years in Chadron, where she was cherished by family and friends.
Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love for her family was evident in everything she did.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Rhonda) Pelton, Julie (Frank) Zaczek and Ed (Stephani) Pelton.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Pelton; and husband, Keith Nixon, whom she now joins in eternal rest.
She leaves behind a legacy carried on by her grandchildren, Toni (Bubba) Hladky, Casey Pelton, Mark (Eilleen) Pelton, RJ (Angie) Pelton, Brooke Stewart, Kayla (Theo) Donley, Megan (Ben) Schuckman, Matthew (Hayli) Pelton and Maddi Pelton, along with many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
Barbara had a knack for finding beauty in the old and the overlooked. She loved antiquing, spending hours searching for treasures with history and character. She was also known for her warm, comforting cooking, filling her home with the smells of favorite dishes and the feeling of welcome.
Above all, her very favorite thing in life was simply spending time with her family. Those moments brought her the deepest happiness, and her presence made every gathering feel complete. Her kindness, humor, and sharp wit will be remembered by all who knew her.
Services will be on Monday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with burial to follow on Tuesday, April 14 at 1 p.m. in North Platte at the North Platte Cemetery.
Barbara’s life was one of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering devotion to the people she cared for. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
