The Battle of the Badges blood drive is underway, continuing until 6 p.m. Friday at the Ramada Inn, 2102 S. Jeffers.

Law enforcement held a one-vote lead over firefighters as of 12:45 p.m. The law is looking for their sixth straight win.

Donors can vote for the organization of their choice.

This is the 11th year of the annual blood drive, which helps the Red Cross replenish their supply. The goal is 99 pints of blood. Walk-ins are welcome.

The drive is held on Sept. 11, in commemoration of the innocent lives that were lost at the World Trade Center in 2001.

“Never forget the heroic acts of the First Responders that day,” the North Platte police said on their facebook. “Never forget how you felt that day. Today, and every day, we take a moment to pause and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001. We will never forget.”
