Here is a list of events that will be held at the public library in August:

The library is open from 9-6 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The hours are from 9-8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Recurring core events:

Book Babies, a 20-minute program for ages 0-3: Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Story Time, a 30-minute program for ages 3-5: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Teens Explore, an hour program for ages 12-18: Thursdays at 4-5 p.m.

Tween Time, an hour program for ages 9-12: Mondays at 4-5 p.m.

Reading PAWtners, an hour program for elementary school students: Saturdays Aug. 15 and Aug. 29 from 9:30–10:30 a.m.

Resin Flowers: Aug. 15 at 3 p.m. – Crafting Flowers out of resin, wire, and mica powder. Ages 18+. Cost $5 per participant. Registration required.

Beaded Flower Keychains:Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. – String together a cute, beaded flower keychain – perfect for keys or bags. Ages: 12+. Cost $5 per participant. Registration required.

Pressed Flower Suncatchers: Aug. 25 at 4:30 p.m. – Create your own customized suncatcher, using acrylic and pressed flowers. Ages: 12+. Cost: $5 per participant. Registration required.

New kit in the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) shop: Library diorama create your own tiny version of the North Platte Public Library.

Special events

Celebrate America Shirtsbring a shirt and we can heat press an America 250 design on it. This is a by appointment. We have funding for 50 total shirts to do for free, 1 per person.

Aug. 7 from 2–4 p.m. — Design a Flag: We will have canvas panels to design your flag with a variety of paint, brushes and mixed media extras. Drop in event. This is a sponsored event with funding from the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation.

Aug. 12 at 4:30 p.m. — Scent detectives: Test your senses. Find out if your nose knows the names of different spices and teas.

Aug. 13 from 6–8 p.m. – Ken Burns Documentary “Benjamin Franklin” watch party – first half

Aug. 20 from 6–8 p.m. – Ken Burns Documentary “Benjamin Franklin” watch party – final half

Both watch parties will have snacks and door prizes. Registration for either or both are required. This is a sponsored event with funds from the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation.
