Around 3 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident two miles west of North Platte on I-80.

Deputies met a man and a woman from Iowa — Daniel Njenga, 21, and Nyarol Billio, 20. A North Platte Rescue crew checked them out and cleared them with minor injuries, according to a sheriff’s statement.

A third person reportedly ran from the scene carrying a large blue duffel bag. Deputies later caught him south of the scene, without the duffel bag. He was identified as Lawrence Sino, 26.

Sino was treated and released at Great Plains Health. Deputies eventually found the duffel bag. It contained suspected marijuana and marijuana products, the statement said.

While investigating the accident, deputies smelled raw marijuana from the vehicle, giving them probable cause to search the car. The search turned up marijuana bags, edibles, THC wax, THC patches and $500 in suspected counterfeit $50 bills, the sheriff’s office said.

All three were incarcerated in the Lincoln County jail and charged with possession of more than a pound of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, as well as unspecified money and controlled substance violations.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing, the sheriff said.
