The North Platte Police Department will participate in the national Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign from May 23-June 5.

The NPPD will team up with law enforcement nationwide for a border-to-border kickoff. Extra officers will be on the streets of North Platte, with a primary focus on enforcing “Occupant Restraint” laws.

In 2019, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 10,000 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were killed in U.S. crashes.

Bill Kovarik, NDOT Highway Safety Administrator, said “In 2021, Nebraska lost 135 community members because they did not buckle their seatbelts.”

If you know a friend or family member who does not buckle up when they drive, let them know you are counting on them to buckle up.

Seat belts save lives, NPPD spokesman Rory Little said.
