About 1,000 kids in costume invaded the core downtown streets Saturday, jamming the area with color and taking home lots of candy from the merchants.

Lori Bergman of the Ice Creamery was the chairwoman of the event. She was totally pleased with the turnout, as were her co-helpers, Jeff and Shae Caldwell of Whitetail Screen Printing/Cycle Sport.

Cash prizes were awarded for best costumes in four divisions — birth to age 4, ages 5-13, age 14 and up, and group.

The North Platte police, fire and rescue brought their vehicles and joined the fun, as the line of children and parents lined all the sidewalks, including East Fifth.
