The Boardwalk businesses at 509 E. Fourth will host a “Back-to-School Bash” on Sunday, Aug. 12 to support North Platte’s children in need.

The bash will be from noon-4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The businesses there hope to raise enough money to buy 50 new or barely-used backpacks filled with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, poofs, hair ties, bows, toothbrushes, fluoride wash, pens, pencils, crayons, pencil boxes, notebooks, coloring books, stuffed animals, messages of love and encouragement, as well as a Visa or Wal-Mart gift card for clothing purchases.

Donations toward the cause are appreciated, organizers say. Five raffle tickets will be awarded for donated items. The prize is an above-ground swimming pool.

Raffle tickets may be purchased for one for $1, six for $5, and 15 for $10. Proceeds will go toward the goal of distributing 50 backpacks.

You are encouraged to come to the Boardwalk dressed as your favorite superhero and partake in food, prizes, face painting, a bounce house, a cake walk, kiddie games and $5 haircuts for school kids.
