State troopers seized nearly 50 pounds of marijuana on I-80 Wednesday night during a traffic stop near Cozad.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Nov. 8, a trooper saw a 2008 GMC pick-up with a headlight violation, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.
During the stop, the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana from the vehicle, prompting a search. The search turned up 48 pounds of marijuana under a sheet of plywood in the bed of the truck.
Also, more than an ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found behind the driver’s seat, Thomas said.
Curtis Dewayne Dixon, 60, of California, was arrested and charged with a series of related crimes — possession of more than a pound of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp.
Dixon was also cited for unspecified, improper vehicle lighting, Thomas said. He was taken to the Dawson County jail.
The stop occurred at mile marker 223, a mile east of Cozad.
The trooper serves with the Nebraska State Patrol Troop D headquarters in North Platte.
