Elliott Purdy, Joey Larson and Kaden Ross won district championships for North Platte High School Wednesday in the A-4 district meet in Grand Island.
With the three wins, the NPHS boys finished fifth out of eight teams with 54 1/2 points. Defending state champion, Omaha Creighton Prep, got first place with 115 points.
In the discus, Larson and Purdy claimed the top two spots. Larson won the event with a distance of 156’7″ and Purdy was second at 153’11”.
Purdy won the shot put at 56’2 1/2″. Kahkahwet Thoe of Grand Island edged Larson for second place by four inches with his throw of 50’11”.
Ross won the triple jump at 43’7″, beating Blake Petersen of Columbus, who had 43’0″.
The North Platte boys had one other qualifier for the state meet in Jacob Harvey, who finished second in the pole vault at 14’0″.
The North Platte girls finished in last place at districts with 17 points. But the Lady Bulldogs had three individuals qualify for state, as well as their 4×100 relay.
Papillion-LaVista South won the event with 156 points.
The 4×100 relay of Kathy Mathieu, McKenna Little, Peyton Neff and Chakera Hough had the highest finish for NPHS by coming in third place.
Neff and Little also qualified for state in individual events. Neff was fourth in the triple jump. Little finished just outside the top four in the 100 meter dash, but her fifth place time of 13.05 seconds was enough for an automatic qualifying time.
Maddie Irish was the other Lady Bulldog to qualify for state in the pole vault. Irish finished seventh at districts but she got the automatic qualifying height of 9’8″.
