North Platte took the best punch from No. 1 ranked Omaha South in the first half on Thursday before fighting back.
South (19-1) scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game. But the Bulldogs scored a goal with just under 13 minutes left in the first half and again a minute before halftime to tie it up at 2-2.
South took the lead again eight minutes into the second half and added an insurance goal with a little more than 10 minutes left to win 4-2 and advance to the state semifinals.
It was the second defeat in the first round of state for North Platte at the hand of Omaha South in three years. South is regarded as having the best high school soccer program in the state. In 2016, the Packers defeated NPHS, 3-1, en route to winning the state championship.
NPHS ends its season with a standout record of 11-5.
