The Sutherland Sailors “Strictly Business” swing choir earned a gold trophy Monday at the Nebraska Choral Director’s festival in western Nebraska.

Thirteen high school and four junior high choirs performed in the Chase County School Auditorium in Imperial.

Although they did not earn a trophy, Hershey and St. Pat’s along with choirs from Alliance, Gering, Mitchell and Julesburg, Colo. competed and gained insight to help them the remainder of the swing choir season.

Sutherland Choir Director Kelli Flesch said the Sailors did a great job.

“This is our first show of the year and I am very proud of my kids,” Flesch said. “They put in a lot of extra time and effort to be successful today.”

In addition to Sutherland, the Bayard 21st Century Singers, Chase County’s 9th St. Singers, the Holdrege Gold Dust Choir and the New Dimension from Kimball received gold trophies.
