Loretta  Alice  Schilz
     Loretta Alice Schilz, 89, of McCook passed away Feb. 27 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Loretta was born in Cambridge to parents, John Charles and Elizabeth Alice (Hougnon) Jones. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940.
     On Feb. 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to William Robert “Bill” Schilz. They made their home in McCook where they owned and operated Schilz Jewelry. Loretta was a busy homemaker and mother to her six children as well as occasionally helping out at the jewelry store.
     Loretta was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and choir. She enjoyed traveling and going to the horse races with her husband.
     Other interests included reading, working cross word puzzles, and cooking. She especially loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
     Survivors include her son, John (Mei Li) Schilz, of Fremont, Calif.; five daughters: Jane (Michael) Walker, of Elm Creek, Anne (Marvin) Roth, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rita (Kenneth) Magdanz, of Heron, Mont., Donna (Patrick) Pelster, of North Platte, and Alice (Rodney) McKillip, of McCook; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Preceding her in death was her devoted husband of 65 years who passed away Feb. 20, 2013; her parents; and two sisters, Bernadine Jones and Mary Heskett.
     Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Mar. 2 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery. Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
