Volleyball: Hershey wins at Elm CreekTell North Platte what you think

The Hershey Panthers captured first place Saturday at the Elm Creek Invitational volleyball tournament with a two-set victory over Wood River in the championship match.

The Lady Panthers won the first set 25-20 and finished off the Lady Eagles 25-18 for the sweep.

Hershey coach Amy Beyer was happy for the wins but said the team needs to learn how to close out games.

“We opened up nice with an eight to ten-point lead in both sets and then let them back into the match,” she said.

Hershey went undefeated in the tournament and reached the finals with two set victories over Pleasanton and Southern Valley.

Beyer said consistency was an issue in their two 25-22 wins against Pleasanton.

It was their first match of the day.

“We had a little shaky start but battled through it,” Beyer said. “We need to focus and make teams pass.”

In the semifinals, the Panthers handled Southern Valley 25-20 and 25-17.

“It was a good confidence builder for our team. Sydney Wolken served the ball well and Emily Barr stepped up as a leader. We need that from her,” Beyer said.

Wolken lead the team with 27 points on the day, Barr had 25 kills and Brittney Richardson added 32 assists.

The wins improved the Panthers’ record to 5-2.

Hershey travels to Gothenburg Friday for the Harvest Festival Invitational.
