Shayne Sprague and his wife Jessica are taking donations on Saturday of money and wire animal crates. Lonny Oltmanns and wife Tracy are collecting drinking water and diapers. They will personally take them to Texas themselves.

These are just two efforts to help after Tropical Storm Harvey pounded the Gulf Coast for more than five days, dropping 50 inches of rain in some areas.

Donations of money or wire pet crates are welcome to the “pets alive” effort. Drop them off at Westfield Small Animal Clinic in North Platte, on Saturday before 3 p.m.

Or, to donate dollars via Paypal, make donations to baldee63@gmail.com.

To donate water or diapers, look for the Oltmanns’ trailer (a 28-foot-long semi pup trailer donated by Cohagen Transfer) in the parking lot of the Platte River Mall on Saturday and Sunday.

“We want to donate personally, something physical besides money,” Oltmanns said. “We checked with churches and organizations. Water and diapers are something that are absolutely needed, and will be for a while, by people who have had to go to shelters. We like doing something to help.”

The Oltmanns are working with an organization called “Acts of Hope” that is based in San Antonio.

The Spragues are working directly with a group called San Antonio Pets Alive. They have a 16 ft. flat bed trailer.

“We both feel compelled to offer our help in any way we can,” Shayne Sprague said. “We will be staying with good friends in San Antonio, but other than that, we will be paying for our trip and expenses out of our own pockets. We wouldn't have it any other way. We are asking, however, for donations to take with us, for the needs on the other end.”

“The two things needed most are, of course, money, and wire crates, not plastic crates,” Shayne said. “This is not a Fur The Love of Paws rescue mission, it's just Jessica and myself giving back to God's gift of our furry friends.”

If you live in the Brady area, there is a drop box on the north side of Sprague’s shop (Shayne's Heating and Air Conditioning), across from the post office. Wire crates can be left by the shop door as well.
