Before noon Saturday, North Platte police went downtown to check out a report of suspicious people entering vehicles that were parked there.

Cash and other items were stolen from vehicles in the area, police spokesman Jeremiah Johnson said.

Upon arrival, Johnson said officers found cause to charge Kaidyn Dieter, 18, and a younger girl, 15, for attempted theft by unlawful taking as well as four counts of theft by unlawful taking.

Police believe the couple hit four vehicles within about hour or so. One of the vehicles had approximately $700 cash -- the victim’s rent money. The money was recovered. Another vehicle had around $100 in it, police said.

Dieter was taken to jail, held on a $10,000 bond.
